RESEARCH
There is no dominant theoretical tradition in the Department of Communication, meaning that students have a full range of theoretical foundations to explore or test. In addition, faculty and students in NC State’s Department of Communication employ a variety of methodological approaches to their work, from traditional quantitative and qualitative methods to rhetorical analysis, meta-analysis, and more. As a land-grant university, NC State is committed to applied knowledge, meaning students and faculty are engaged in applied research and communication projects that are meaningful for North Carolina and beyond. See faculty profiles for faculty research.
STUDENT RESEARCH
Our graduate students do innovative research, and their excellent work is regularly recognized by academic and professional conferences in the region, the nation, and internationally. Students who are interested also attend monthly Department of Communication research colloquia and practice research presentations at Department gatherings. Here are some of the student research papers competitively selected for presentation, including master's students and doctoral students in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media.
