Cynthia Zuckerman-Hyman, Undergraduate Head of Advising
Honor students may earn both their B.A. and M.S. degrees in Communication in five years with the Department of Communication's Accelerated Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program (ABM). Note that an undergraduate degree is normally earned in four years; a Master of Science in Communication degree (if enrolled full-time) takes two years to complete.
Students interested in the ABM must complete the standard application for admission to NC State’s Graduate School. Students who complete the honors program in conjunction with the ABM must take three 500-level courses to complete the Honors Program.
To be admitted into the advanced program, students must:
- Have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours in the B.A. in Com program that may include tranfer credits or credits from advanced placement;
- Complete COM 110 or COM 112, COM 230, COM 240, COM 250, and at least three additional courses in Communication with a minimum major GPA of 3.5. At least one of those additional courses should be at the 300 or 400 level;
- Have a minimum Total Grade Point Average (TGPA) of 3.5 at NC State at the time of admission into the ABM Program; and
- Transfer students must have completed a minimum of two semesters (at least 24 credit hours) as a full-time student at NC State.
