What We Offer

Our department offers a B.A. in Communication. Our approach to the study of communication is centered around six competencies for personal, professional and community development. These competencies are:

  1. Interpersonal Communication: Build communication skills necessary for successful interactions with others.
  2. Organizational Communication: Explore communication that fosters collaborative organizational cultures.
  3. Public Relations and Strategic Communication: Cultivate relationships between organizations and their publics, achieving organizational goals.
  4. Rhetoric and Civic Engagement: Foster community leadership through understanding and producing persuasive messages to promote action.
  5. Media Studies and Production: Analyze the connections among media technologies, culture and society, and create critical media projects.
  6. Science, Health, Environmental and Risk Communication: Help experts and the public communicate with each other about science, health, risk and environmental sustainability.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

Our graduates work for top organizations across the globe. They manage public relations campaigns, work in front of and behind the camera, handle publicity and event planning for major corporations and more.

Student Organizations

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)

The goal of PRSSA is to serve members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities, as well as to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals. They work to foster an understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession; an appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles and more.

Lambda Pi Eta — National Communication Honor Society

Lambda Pi Eta at NC State is an active chapter of the National Communication Honor Society. Selection is based on outstanding academic performance, and the club strives to promote excellence in the communication field while reaching out to the community. We offer community service, professional networking, and enriching academic experiences to our members.
