Opening the Door to Study Abroad

A new College of Humanities and Social Sciences pilot program aims to encourage more students from underrepresented groups to study abroad for the first time. Kickstarted by a $25,000 NC State University Foundation grant, the Travel Scholars pilot program will help some underrepresented students pay for study abroad and inform others about what resources are available.

Seeking Global Strategic Partners: Travels to Uganda

NC State seeks out strategic partners around the globe. That quest took Dean Jeff Braden to Uganda recently, where he led a university delegation to explore the potential for partnerships between Makarere University, the Kingdom of Buganda, The Aids Support Organization (TASO), and the Maamma Watali Project. His goal was to assess the resources, capabilities and needs there in order to advise NC State's Office of International Affairs on whether or how to proceed in developing these international partnerships.

May Student of the Month

Laken Geiger is a junior with a major in Communication and minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. She has had several media and arts-related internships, and spent Spring 2014 studying in Prague. She is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America and Habitat for Humanity.

Donors Help Top Students Reach Their Potential

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences continues to grow as a destination college for talented, top-ranked students from across our state and beyond. Merit scholarships play a critical part in attracting and retaining such students. This year, CHASS awarded more than 100 merit-based scholarships across all its disciplines. A number of scholarship students were able to thank their donors at the college's 2014 Scholarship Luncheon.

50 Days, 50 Meals

Two NC State students are traveling the world this summer. Austin Simmons and Andrew Vanover have organized their adventure around food: through "50 Days, 50 Meals," they want to share a meal with a different stranger every day, and in so doing, "hear their stories, hear their perspectives on various topics, and learn from different cultures."
